At St Mary’s Catholic Primary School, we are committed to ensuring that all pupils have access to high-quality physical education, sport and physical activity.

The PE and Sport Premium is used to make additional and sustainable improvements to our PE, sport and physical activity provision. It supports our aim for pupils to develop healthy, active lifestyles and to access a broad range of physical activities and sporting opportunities.

The school has completed the Department for Education’s statutory digital PE and Sport Premium reporting return for the 2025–26 academic year.

How the Funding Was Used

During the 2025–26 academic year, PE and Sport Premium funding supported a range of opportunities to enhance PE, physical activity and sport at St Mary’s, including:

• continuing professional development to strengthen staff knowledge and expertise;
• additional extracurricular sporting opportunities;
• PE equipment and resources to enhance curriculum provision and active play;
• participation in sporting activities, events and competitions;
• external coaching and specialist provision;
• opportunities designed to increase pupils’ participation in physical activity; and
• provision to support increased participation for pupils with SEND and disadvantaged pupils.

Impact on Pupils

The PE and Sport Premium has supported increased opportunities for pupils to participate in physical activity and sport both within and beyond the school day.

Pupils have benefited from a broader range of sporting and physical activity opportunities, including specialist provision and extracurricular activities. Investment in equipment and resources has supported PE provision and provided further opportunities for pupils to be physically active during the school day.

Participation in sporting activities and events has provided opportunities for pupils to develop teamwork, resilience, confidence and positive attitudes towards physical activity.

We continue to promote inclusive participation and ensure that pupils with SEND and disadvantaged pupils are supported to access appropriate opportunities in PE, sport and physical activity.

Sustaining Improvements

We are committed to ensuring that improvements made through the PE and Sport Premium have a lasting impact.

Investment in staff professional development helps to strengthen staff knowledge, skills and confidence so that high-quality PE provision can continue beyond the period of funding.

Equipment and resources purchased through the premium will continue to support PE lessons, active play and extracurricular opportunities in future years.

We will continue to review participation in PE, sport and physical activity and identify any pupils or groups who may experience barriers to participation. This will help us to identify future priorities and ensure that all pupils have opportunities to be active, develop their skills and enjoy physical activity.

Swimming and Water Safety

Swimming and water safety remain an important part of our curriculum.

At the end of the 2025–26 academic year:

• 90% of Year 6 pupils could swim competently, confidently and proficiently over a distance of at least 25 metres.
• 90% of Year 6 pupils could use a range of strokes effectively.
• 90% of Year 6 pupils could perform safe self-rescue in different water-based situations.
