Governors

Welcome to our Governors’ section.

🌿 Governance at St Mary’s

At St Mary’s, our governing body plays a vital role in shaping the strategic direction of our school. Working in partnership with the Headteacher and staff, governors provide both support and challenge, ensuring that every child receives the best possible education and is able to thrive.

Governors do not manage the day-to-day running of the school. Instead, they focus on the bigger picture—holding leaders to account, ensuring our vision and values are lived out, and making sure resources are used effectively.

🤝 Working Together for the Best Outcomes

We are committed to developing a strong and informed governing body who truly understand our school. Governors are encouraged to:

  • visit school regularly
  • meet with subject leaders
  • engage with staff and pupils
  • develop a clear understanding of teaching, learning and curriculum priorities

These visits are purposeful and linked directly to our school development priorities. Subject leaders share their action plans with governors and provide updates on progress, impact and next steps.

Governors then use this information to:

  • ask informed questions
  • monitor progress across the curriculum
  • contribute to strategic decision-making

📊 Accountability and Continuous Improvement

Following visits and meetings, governors produce short reports which are shared with the full governing body. This ensures that all governors:

  • have a clear understanding of strengths and areas for development
  • can support and challenge school leaders effectively
  • remain focused on improving outcomes for all pupils

🌟 Our Shared Aim

At St Mary’s, governance is built on trust, transparency and a shared commitment to excellence.

Together, governors, leaders and staff work towards one goal:
to ensure every child is known, supported and able to flourish.
