Preventing Radicalisation

The Prevent duty forms part of our safeguarding responsibilities.

Prevent aims to protect children from being drawn into terrorism or supporting extremist ideologies. Children may be vulnerable to radicalisation in person or online.

Staff receive training to recognise possible concerns and know how to report them. Any concern is considered carefully and proportionately by the safeguarding team.

Through Religious Education, PSHE, British values, Catholic Social Teaching and the wider curriculum, children learn to:

• respect people of different faiths and beliefs;
• challenge prejudice and discrimination;
• consider evidence and question misinformation;
• discuss differing views respectfully;
• recognise manipulation and harmful influence; and
• understand that violence and hatred are never acceptable responses to disagreement.

Prevent is about safeguarding vulnerable children; it is not about labelling a particular faith, culture or community.
