We are Luciano, Niamh, Joe, Bobby, Aniela, Alice & Dominic and we are St. Mary’s School Council. We meet once a month with Mrs. Cowburn. We represent the voice and opinions of all the children within our school. Through our School Council we aim to develop young leadership skills, whilst supporting student democracy. Most importantly, our strong team of Councillors aim to promote the well-being of the children within our inclusive school.
The School’s Council is an ideal opportunity for pupils to get more involved in the way the school is run. The School Council benefits the whole school, pupils and teachers, because it provides opportunities for pupils to communicate their feelings as well as influence decisions that are made.
Our aims are to:
We are Charlie, Edward. Kitty, Joni, Elicia, Lillie & Daisy-May and we are St. Mary’s Fair Trade Team. We meet once a month with Mrs. Butcher to discuss our plans to sell Fair Trade products. We help support farmers in developing countries to earn a decent living, to make a better future for themselves and their families.
We sell Fairtrade items on Friday mornings during playtime.
We are Holly, James, Miles, Ellie, Zaccheus & Ben and we are St. Mary’s EcoTeam. We meet once a month with Miss Taher to discuss how we can make our school more Eco-Friendly. We have put reminders to turn off next to every light switch around school, and are planning a Power Down Day. We make sure that the whole school recycles materials.
We recently took part in an Eco Conference at Blackburn Rovers FC. It was great fun – we got involved in a debate about Fracking and got to watch a “Recycled Fashon Show”.
We are currently arranging a sponsored walk up Parlick.
We are Victoria, Matty, Bradley, Sally, Rudi & Daisy and we are St. Mary’s Healthy Schools Group. We meet once a month with Mrs. Hutchings to discuss our plans for healthy school lunches. We discuss products such as sugar and how much sugar is in our favourite drinks leading to our most recent display “Think before you Drink”.
We are Georgia, Chloe, Patrick, Anna, Sophie, Lilly & Daisy and we are the St. Mary’s Chaplaincy Group. We meet once a month with Mrs. Morris to discuss how we can help to create a happy, prayerful and spiritual environment, in which we as a family continue to love, grow and learn together in faith. The Chaplaincy Group help to promote the teachings of Christ in a relevant and meaningful way by helping to prepare liturgy and by participating and leading the prayer-life of our school; through whole school assemblies, Collective Worship and the celebration of Mass.
Our recent acheivements include arranging a coffee morning to raie money for a bench in Father Anthony’s memory – and then buying the bench and unveiling it after a special mass.
We are currently arranging an Enterprise Day.
